Text to floor plan

Text to floor plan, in one conversation.

To turn text into a floor plan, write the size, the rooms and how they connect, then let Roommie draft it. The agent turns your words into a dimensioned plan with walls, doors, windows and furniture, and checks the geometry before it shows you the result.

What to write

A good brief is short and concrete. You do not need special words.

  • Total size: "85 m²" or "8 by 11 metres"
  • Rooms: "2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, open kitchen and living"
  • Links: "bathroom next to the main bedroom"
  • Style and use: "warm Scandinavian, home office for one"

Example prompts

These work as written.

  • "Studio flat, 38 m², sleeping nook, kitchen along one wall."
  • "3-bed family apartment, 110 m², kitchen island, two bathrooms."
  • "Single-storey house, 10 by 14 metres, 3 bedrooms, open living and kitchen."

Change it with more text

After the first draft, keep typing. "Make the kitchen bigger", "swap the bedrooms" or "add a window on the north wall" all work. The plan, the drawing sheets and the 3D model update together.

From text to files

When the draft looks right, export DXF for CAD, SVG for print or GLB for 3D. Every export is included on the free plan.

Questions

Can ChatGPT draw a floor plan?

A general chat model can describe a layout or make a picture of one, but the picture is not to scale. Roommie is built for this job: it drafts measured geometry, checks it, and exports CAD files.

How detailed should my text be?

Size and room list are enough for a first draft. Add links between rooms and a style if you have them. You can refine in chat after.

Which units does it use?

Metric. Lengths are in millimetres and metres, areas in square metres.
