Guide

DXF, SVG or GLB: which file do you need?

Use DXF when you will keep editing the plan in CAD. Use SVG when you will print it or put it in a presentation. Use GLB when you want the 3D model. Roommie exports all three from the same plan.

DXF: for editing in CAD

DXF is the common exchange format for 2D CAD. It keeps real sizes and layers. Open it in AutoCAD, FreeCAD or LibreCAD to add detail, or save it as DWG.

SVG: for print and slides

SVG is a vector image. It stays sharp at any size and opens in a browser, Figma and Illustrator. Use it for client decks, print and web.

GLB: for 3D

GLB is a single-file 3D model. It opens in Blender, web viewers, game engines and AR viewers. Use it to show the space or to render it elsewhere.

Quick pick

Match the file to the next step.

  • Sending to an architect or drafter: DXF
  • Showing a client on screen or paper: SVG
  • Walkthrough, render or AR: GLB

Questions

Is DXF the same as DWG?

No. DWG is AutoCAD's own format. DXF is the open exchange format. Most CAD tools open DXF and can save DWG.

Can I open GLB on a phone?

Yes. Most phones can view GLB files, and many can show them in AR.
